Listening & Learning: Disparities in Breastfeeding Services for Black and Parents of Color
Thursday, 2-4-21
9 a.m. PST
Instagram Live @SugarNightNight
February is Black History Month and a great time to delve into how we can support the black community. Did you know as of now, 2021, in San Diego, there is only ONE Black International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC)! How can that be!?!
I am working to educate myself on how I can offer more support and amplify the Black and people of color voices. With that intent, I am doing another Listening & Learning Instagram Live. On 2-4-21, I will have a conversation with my dear friend, Robin Kaplan M.ED., IBCLC, Founder and CEO of San Diego Breastfeeding Center and the San Diego Breastfeeding Center Foundation (SDBFCF). The mission of SDBFCF is to reduce socioeconomic and racial disparities in breastfeeding support by increasing access to qualified lactation consultants for marginalized groups, such as people of color and low-income families.
We will be discussing:
- What are the “socioeconomic & racial disparities in breastfeeding support?”
- How is San Diego Breastfeeding Center Foundation working to increase access to qualified lactation consultants?
- How can we help?
I am looking forward to the conversation between Robin and myself, and I hope you will join us. If you cannot join us live, we will post the recording on the @SugarNightNight Instagram TV account.
